Somervell was a U.S. Army officer, who served as director of construction division for the Quartermaster Department from 1940-1941, and G-4 of the War Department General Staff from 1941-1942. William Richard Arnold (1881-1965) was born in Wooster, Ohio. He graduated from St. Joseph's College in 1908 and finished his seminary studies in the same year when he was made clergy in the Roman Catholic Church.
